How do I use my Sony Vio lap-top without an access code?

• Is there any computer mental giants that can tell me how get into this lap-top someone gave us? OK, here's the skinny: My wifes friend gave her a lap-top computer. Her friends son is in the navy. The son 'says' he found the lap-top that his friend left behind when he shipped out in the Navy. So we have a beautiful lap-top and can't use it. We contacted Sony Corp. and they say that for security reasons,(of course) they require the original sales receipt in order to help us with the access code issue. My wife is the computer guru of the family and she says that you can't use a 'jumper' thingy or whatever. I'm about as computer illiterate as they come. Is there any way for us to get to use this thing? I don't think the kid stole it,(but i don't KNOW). I think the kid saw a way to con his Dad out of a few hundred bucks from a computer that he supposedly 'found'. If you know of a solution to this, please let me know.   If either you or your wife are comfortable opening the laptop simply remove the CMOS battery, wait a few minutes, put the battery back in, and start the computer. As the computer begins to boot repeatedly tap the F2 key and you should be into setup. Keep in mind you will have to manually reset the date, time, and possibly a few other things. If that doesn't work try booting from the cd/dvd drive if you have a copy of Windows.
