Do as said afterwards. First of all increase your virtual memory or page file size open control panel double click system folder on opening page click advanced than Tick before Adjust for best performance & click apply(it will take a while). Than click advanced in coming window you will find virtual memory click setting. Select drive on which you want your virtual memory to be.Choose other than primary partion, then click custom and change the Page file size or virtual memory size by typing. Initial size should be 1024 MB at least & max size should be not less than 2048 MB. 1. Search for temp files( In search box type *.tmp) click search. Delete all files that appears after search. 2. Than as above type *.log & do the same. 3. Search Temp folder Delete all it's content. 4. Search Temprory Internet Files & delete it's content. 5. Run updated Antivirus & Anti spyware. 6. Run disk cleanup from system tools in accessories. 7. Than defragment your drives twice from system tools Defrag. 8. From run type msconfig > enter > click on startup un check all checked field except of antivirus & anti spyware. Choose & click services, Check beside hide all MS Services. In remaining list uncheck all except Anti virus & Anti spyware services click apply click ok you will asked to restart click restart. You are almost done. This will make your system considerably faster but one very essential action has to be taken and that is cleaning Registry which is the main reason of sluggis system. Dowload WIN XP Manager or tuneup utilities install & clean. Try with win xp manager,s 1 click cleaner. You can download it from www.softarchive.net. It requires dotnet fx so you will have to download it also. First you will have to install dotnet fx. It is free & you can get it from site of microsoft. Your PC will become as fast as it was when new or a bit better.

Go into your computer, right click on c: drive in your tools you can optimize (defrag) & scan your drive Do this first then go into your control panel & remove unused software, a tedious but necessary task. then rerun your optimizer & scan. You will notice a considerable difference if system has been bogging down. Also you can shut down some of the tasks that are running in the background Also go into your internet tools & options, then delete your internet history, temp files & cookies. Removing cookies will remove some internet auto information transfer to unnecessary sites

First answers are Good. After the mscofing mentioned you can use Ctrl > Alt > Delete to see Task Manager and try closing any running processes that msconfig not get. Some you have to have some you can do without. It been a long time I used Windows 98SE but, I could close everything but 2-3 processes and it would zoom on the Internet. I have not tried my Windows 2000 to see what all I can stop. Just remember, if, you shut something down important you just re-boot and start again until you "Know" what has to run and what not have to run. Once you know what you need and not need it easy then.

PC's slow down the more you put on them so it's best to remove any unwanted programs. so here we go. Start/Settings/ADD-REMOVE/ look down the list and delete any programs you no longer need. Take a note of what you have deleted. Ok back to desktop. START/SEARCH/ type in the first program you deleted and click you will see some folders that have not been removed when you deleted it from add/remove now delete all the items that are shown. they may not all be deleted in one go and may require a restart empty the bit before restart. once restarted go to pref etch and deletee all the items that are there then go back to the desktop and do a search again remove any files etc that are left. empty bin. do this with every program you delet out of ADD/REMOVE once you have done this go MY computer/Property's you will see a pie chart and to the right of this a CLEAN DISK click and Ok that will clean all the files that are not needed and give you space on your HD. there are other things U can do but I just don't have the space to explain sorry..all the best PC MAN

After doing all of the above, you could try overclocking it. PC hardware enthusiasts do it all the time.
