How do you ground the PC Case?

Why is my PC so slow?

  • Hi all Im almost completely IT illiterate so please try to give me an idiots guide on how to deal with my issue! ive neglected my PC for about 3 months becasue around December it started running ridiculously slowly. it take around 10 minutes to start up and about 30 to 40 seconds to load up an internet explorer tab. Basically, I know that one of the things that can make a PC run slowly is the amount of information stored on it and the number of programs that all load together on starting up the PC. With the storage - I have a C drive with a capacity of 100GB - 31GB of which is being used. Then I have a D (data) drive which has a capacity of 180GB, 21GB of which is being used. Is this too much usage of the space available? Ive started transferring the files saved in C to D, as I read on a website that the C drive should be as free as possible becasue thats where the programs are all saved and they can be slowed down if there isnt enough free space on the drive. however its really time consuming to tranfer 20GB of files from the C to D - especially as the PC is running slowly!. Eg im tranferring a photo album with 8GB worth of files and its estimated transfer time is 25 minutes and fluctuating! If there is enough free space on the C drive I would rather not bother - so could someone please explain the capacity ratio that should be available? secondly - if space isnt an issue - what else could be? Ive run a full avast scan and a full malware bytes scan - and neither found any bad files. is there anything else I could try to defect dirty or infected files? I dont know if I have too many programs running in the back ground - as I dont know how to diagnose that sort of thing - so is there a simle way to do this? if it helps, the slow running thing literally happened over night, so i didnt think it was a case of too many running applications, as the slowness should have happened gradually if that was the case right? any help is appreciated, as I cant afford a technical type to fix this problem, so unless I can do it myself, the PC will just die slowly in the corner of my room!! many thanks in advance Cher

Possible fixes Open Run>%temp%>delete all files in this folder Open Run>msconfig>un-check pointless program that open on startup. Download>CCleaner>change setting to gutman pass (35 passes) run the cleaner and just delete all the files that show in the final scan In CCleaner>fix registry issues>dont save any changes if it asks Change theme to windows classic to run in really low graphics Defrag hard drive ONLY IF IT COMES TO IT - Reinstall your OS and completely delete older of of OS Hope this helps

There have to be two issues: a. Virus Infection (Use Avast free) b. Corrupt Registry/System errors (Use Reginout ) I am sure it will fix for you.

Greeting! A slow computer can be caused by many things. Sometimes a quick defrag will solve the problem, other times it's more complex. Do you have a lot of programs running at startup? If so try disabling some with "msconfig". On Windows 7/Vista it can be accessed by typing "msconfig" on the windows start menu search bar. On Windows Xp, click run, then type it in. Click the "startup" tab, and uncheck any programs you don't need/want running. Cheers.

Hello, there are several possible causes as to why your computer does this. One possible cause could be that your operating system is too much for the computer itself. Also, you see, programs like adobe flash player, java or others that get to be used are updated everyday and at some point, they get to outgrow your system configuration. You can also use CCleaner - it's a nice little program that gets rid of all the crappy files you don't need. What I would recommend is reinstalling the operating system and using the downgraded versions of the programs you normally use - they might free some memory for Internet Browsing and whatever activities you have.
