Whats the difference between a pc cd rom and a pc dvd rom?

CD Rom is for CD Drive or DVD drive DVD Rom is for DVD Drive only CD hold about 700-800mb usualy DVD hold bout 4.5gb So basically they use DVD Roms for more complex games which need more data

Hi, The difference is a cd rom will only play cd's, (about 750 meg of data), such as an audio cd, whilst a dvd rom will normally play both cd's and dvd's. DVD's can hold a lot more data and of course that is what films are supplied on as they use up more space. Arnak

a CD (Compact Disk) can hold up to 700MB of data while a DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) holds about 4.7GB. So basically, a DVD is a bigger version of a CD. They look about the same, but you will need a DVD drive to be able to read that format. If you have a DVD-ROM drive then it can also read CD's (downward compatible) but you cannot read a DVD if you only have a CD-ROM drive. There are also other formats available now like Dual Layer (DVD-DL) which is 8.5GB and Blu-Ray (BD) which holds 25GB and 50GB for Dual Layer versions. Basically, all of these disks are a media that can hold data (video, audio, files) and the difference is the amount it can store.
