Problem with my computer's speakers.

Why don't my computer speakers work?

  • sorry I don't know much about computers and speakers but I will try to explain the problem as best I can. I bought a computer (custom built) and it came with a nice set of speakers, two speakers and a base, when I plug them in they turn on so i know there is power but when I plug them into the comp nothing happens, I plugged my old cheap speakers into the comp and they work fine. The only thing can think of is maybe the cord that goes from the speakers to the computer is shorted out. There is no cracks or pinches in any of the cords. I have windows 7 maybe my computer will not recognize the speakers? Maybe I need to try a different port? thanks for any help, I hate to throw them out because they are really nice speakers, Oh and the cord that goes from the speakers to the computer cannot be removed so I can't see if a different one would work, the only thing I can unplug is the power cord and the cord that goes to the base.

The problem lies with the speakers if your old speakers work in the same port. Are the speakers new? If so you can just return them. If not i would try replacing the wire (that plugs into your computer) with another one that you can salvage from somewhere(old headphones/speakers).
