Well, alot of the time I find that it is caused by an incompatible program, usually an anti-virus program. If you've installed any programs recently I would first try to uninstall them. If that doesn't work then I would personally re-install the OS. And if the compute doesn't stay on long enough to back-up your files you can grab yourself an Ubuntu live installer disc and manually back up your files. After that if you have a restore disc or a Vista install disc(you could even borrow a friend's) use that to reinstall/recover Vista. Edit: As a side note I do agree with cholley_... I was just trying to be as helpful as possible with the little info given

Most commonly the problem causing BSOD, is a virus or a driver that doesn't quite go well with the system. So try using the Windows OS Disk (for example: if your using Vista Home Premium, then use the installation disk that has the Vista Home Premium OS installation files on it). Pop it in> Restart> Boot from DVD/CD-Drive by pressing F11 continuously before anything comes up on-screen>select your DVD/CD-Drive from the list> then you will be asked to press 'space bar' (to load the files from the Windows disk) and after it takes care of the "loading files from disk part" follow the steps until you see an option where they ask you if you would like to "repair" your system by pressing "R" on your keyboard. note: Function key may be different. Try F8 if not F11. Follow through with that, and it'll do a system restore to an earlier day on your computer where it worked fine (example: the day before it crashed.). This has been saving my life for the past few months. Good luck! take care.
