Will any 2.5 SATA hard drive work with the Xbox 360 slim?

Xbox 360 IDE to SATA hard drive, will this work?

  • I have a 30GB IDE hard drive just laying around so I bought a IDE to SATA converter, and erased all the data on it. Whenever I try to reformat it, it causes Core 1 of my processor to spaz and my computer lag. What do I format it to? But, I'm rambling, is it possible from using the SATA converter, to put it into my Xbox 360? I already have it open, and I know it's physically not the right size, but I'll make it work. Seriously though, if it's possible, tell me. I only have the 4GB Slim model, and a LOT of normal Xbox games.

  • Answer:

No. The Xbox 360 is very picky about hard drives, and only works with a select few SATA drives with the correct firmware.

You can probably use it in your PC. Just format it FAT32 or NTFS. I wouldn't, unless absolutly needed. 30GB is pretty tiny in today's standards, plus is probably old enough to have problems, or at least be beyond its expected life. There would be slimmer chance if it being usable in an Xbox360. If you want an Xbox drive, put your money towards one sure to work in it.
