Why is the letters on a keyboard not arranged as ABC... but as QWERTYUIOP....?
-
I have always wondered why the letters on the keyboard were arranged like that instead of the regular ABC's. What or why do you think so?

Answer:
The reason for the qwerty arrangement is based in history. When typewriters first became popular, machine technology was less-than stellar, to say the least. Typewriters would jam. Some bright individual fixed the jamming problem by arranging the keys in the qwerty pattern. Harder to type quickly and reduced the jamming problem. The qwerty stuck - everyone is used to it. There are other key patterns that are more sensible (dvorak keyboards) and you can experiment with them on most computers. But it's hard to get everyone to switch away from qwerty.

They are arranged by most commonly used letters. Well, that is if you are typing correctly at least.

Because back in the day when there were only manual typewriters, some people typed so quickly that the keys would end up getting jammed. Someone (sorry, forgot his name) figured out that by placing the keys in this manner it would slow the typist down enough to prevent key jamming. It didn't always work, but it helped immensely. Contrary to popular belief they were not arranged by commonly used letters (I mean really -- "Q?")

It was designed to keep letters that commonly appear next to each other in words far apart on the keyboard. It was designed to keep typewriters from jamming, and it's why typing a sentence feels spread across the keyboard, and doesn't usually use a whole bunch keys very close to each other. There are other keyboard layouts too. This one is called QWERTY if you'd like to look it up. :3

They are arranged so that letters that are commonly next to each other in words are far away from each other to avoid typos and mechanical issues with typewriters. QWERTY is from the days of typewriters where one spelling mistake meant you had to re-do the whole paper! Other Countries who use different words sometimes have different keyboards.

because most people the way the type and form words is easier to do so with 2 hands and see everything that way some gps's like garmin offer you that option for the on screen keyboard if u ever get one just for an example or go to the store and try out the demo one and watch how hard it is to use........basically what they all said is true lol kinda what i meant about the easier to type its about where the letters are sorry forgot to say it like that

It had something to do with how often the letters are used are easier to type. That's why 'q' and 'z' and 'x' are in the left hand corner where the left pinky would type and the most used ones are in the middle where the index fingers can type.

It's been that way since the typewriter was first invented. It was based on the premise that certain letters are used more frequently and in combinations than others, thus making it easier and faster to type.

To stop people typing fast! Years ago when typewriters were a new invention the keys would get jammed easily if a user typed too quick, so they were re-arranged in a non logical order to slow typists down. It stuck.
