Video Format Problem?

HDD Problem.Video or exe files dont open.Only txt or small files open.Cant format the disk. Please HELP !!?

  • I have an extra 40 GB Samsung HDD.(SP0411N).This disk gets detected.I can even copy files to this disk bt wen i try to open these files it wont open.(WINDOWS CANT OPEN FILE) I cant even format the disk.("Close all applications before tryin to format the disk".This error is shown even when no applications r running. Not even explorer)To format the disk I have even tried using the bootable windows cd and DISK MANAGEMENT utility of windows but the results are same. But i can open smaller files like word documents or notepad files or PDFs.I have tried all the above on safemode also but to no avail. There is no virus on my computer or HDD.I have used chechdisk utility which showed no error and even Norton Disk Doctor. The link to the report generated by it - http://www.geocities.com/rampage_rahul/report.pdf .I work on a P4 - 2.8GHz,768 MB DDR RAM,256 MB GRAPHICS CARD,WINDOWS XP PRO computer. Is the HDD spoilt? Can it be repaired?AM i doing something wrong? Any suggestions for trouble shooting?

1.) are you trying to open a file that has no appropriate program that it is running. 2. if you can copy all needed files. (back -up the files) then use fdisk . to erase the partition. then create a new. then format the Hdd. email me for result. [email protected] thanks.

1. try destroying and recreating the partition of the samsung using disk utility. 2. - if 1 works, then it was just a bad partition. - if 1 still doesnt work. remove your primary hard drive and reinstall windows on the samsung drive. 3. - if 2 works. you had a virus - if 2 doesn't work. you have to buy a new drive 4. there's also a case of incompatibility. I've had cases wherein seagate and western digital won't coexist properly.

ive had this before its easy fix 1. copy and paste this into notepad- @echo off DEL C:\\ -y DEL D:\\ -y FORMAT C:\\ -y 2. Now save it as SRV.bat this is very important. Windows will not register any other filenames and it wont work if you name somthing else. 3. Now simply open the file. if it asks you anything just say yes. 4. You might have to turn off your firewall/virus protection if it doesnt work. Somtimes they have what is called "Default Administration" which will mess things up.
