Answer:
Western Digital makes a utility called "Data Lifeguard tools" which will allow you to copy an installation from one drive to the other. It is free to download and the only other stipulation is that you have a Western Digital drive to validate its operation. I t can be found here http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?swid=1 If you plan on copying a boot drive then Western Digital recommends using http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?cxml=n&pid=4&swid=23 Be sure NOT to allow E-Zdrive to install itself to the drive if using the DOS version. simply transfer files only. There is other software such as Symantic's "ghost" and a myriad of others, If your other drive is a Maxtor, then I would get their software instead http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.8db0c3d6932ced37294198b091346068/?channelpath=%2Fen_us%2FSupport%2FSoftware+Downloads%2FView+By+Category%2FDesktop+Storage%2FDiamondMax+Family as it is more designed for boot transfers.

Try the files and settings transfer wizard [Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>Files and Settings Transfer Wizard] or Make a bakup and set it to shadow copy then save it to your new HDD [Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>Back Up] Do these only if you want to transfer all your data to your new slick hard disk. This Options only works for XP. =) IF you want to transfer selected files, just cut paste them from your old drive to your new drive. But you can't do this for files in your PROGRAM FILES folder. If you want some programs from this folder to work after transfering it to your new drive, you have to tweak some files and your registry if needed. Instead of gambling your system, just use your new disk to stuff in new data and leave the old one as is.
