How to fix "F" Keys (Function Keys)?

Hello I play a game that requires you to use the function keys (F1, F2, F3 etc.) but when I press them in the game it doesnt do the right function. I assume this is because they already have one function and the game's functions are something else. What do I have to do so that in a game the keys only work for that game's functions. I have tried unlocking them but I have to unlock the keys every time I press one. Thanks in advance.
