How To Speed Up My Pc?

How to speed up my pc !?

  • i have only 15 % on my pc left and thought by buying a external hard drive 500 gb would speed up my pc but the reverse has happened - i use reason 4 which is quite a big cpu user but recently when using reason 4 (songwriting application) the software stops with a pop up saying pc is running to slow to play song - any ideas - i have stuck downloaded songs photos and documents on the external hard drive. but its still running slow

  • Answer:

First, run defrag to help organize the OS. Windows defrag is ok but you have to leave it alone. Try Norton 360 instead. Next, find out what programs are running in the background and if they're really necessary. Press CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the task manager. This will tell you any program that is running. If you don't use it on a regular basis, remove it from the Startup folder in your programs listing. Now consider getting more RAM memory. Buy as much as you can afford to and as much as your MB will support. Phurface

An external hard drive is not going to make your PC go quicker, and as it uses resources then it will cause your PC to run slightly slower. If I were you I would swap the hard drives around. Clone the new disk with your current hard drive using something like xxclone. I presume your external hard drive is bigger than your old one, so it is likely to be faster as well. When you have swapped them around only attach your old hard disk when you want to make backups.

Usually, more RAM will help your cause. But depending on your PC and the drain the programs you use put on it, you may be wise to look at all options, i.e. newer machine/extra RAM/defragment and unclutter your hard-drive a tad. Good luck.

see the icons in the bottom right in the task bar, they are all the programs currently running. Shut them down by right click and "exit" if everything goes well, reset those programs "not to run when windows start"
