Why is my computer running so slow lately?
-
My computer is lagging and the internet is slow and skips when I play videos. I'm the main computer hooked up to the cable modem and the wireless computers in my house are faster. I have updated my virus definitions and scanned. I have scanned with Anti-Malware. I have Malwarebytes and Norton 360. I've cleaned the registry with CCleaner. I check the processes and nothing is hogging CPU. I have tried everything I can think of and cannot figure out why it is running so slow. I've defragged as well. It's even slow offline. What else could there be?

Answer:
First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it. http://www.delete-computer-history.com/what-is-the-best-registry-cleaner.html 2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how: 1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser 2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options". 3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files. 4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK. 5. Click OK. 3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how: 1. Open your Start menu. 2. Click Run 3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" 4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab 5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using. 6. Click "OK"

keep only one antivirus, clean hard drive and get rid of crap (if harddrive is less than 5% free, things get sluggish). could also be dusk clogging fans and lining internal parts. make sure you clean your machine every 6 months-year. more if you smoke etc. lastly, i don't know how old your machine is, but every computer deserves a format and fresh install every so often. buying new hardware will also fix your problems, but then, so is buying a new machine altogether :P

Clean the hard disk (diffrent from defrag) in the control panel also delete all temp files and cookies as they can take up virtual memory and cause lagging also try updating your drivers as they may be old you video driver should be checked first

Hi, you can speed up your computer by the following ways: 1.run a antivirus software to scan your computer fully. virus usually impacts the speed of computer. If there is no virus, see the possible reasons that make computers slow down and solutions. 2.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer's performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors. If you are not familiar with registry, don't remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You'd better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it's safe to operating system. 3.There must be too many programs start up automatically when you start your computer.Run a registry optimizer or cleaner to stop those unnecessary start-up programs. 4.Have you ever clean up your computer since you bought it? If the answer is never, I am sure that there are lots of junk files on it. Junk files is also one of reasons that will cause computer slowing down. You'd better delete them regularly. 2,3,4 can be realized by a registry optimizer. 5.If a registry optimizer doesn't work, add RAM or do a fresh reinstall of windows. Before you do a reinstall, please remember to back up.However, you should know that frequent reinstall is harm to hard disk. 6.Put programs on other drivers ,not C driver, because commonly C is for operating system. And defrag hard disks every 2 months. Good luck.
