Windows explorer stopped working in vista?

'Windows explorer has stopped working' help?

when i open folders, after about 2 seconds, it comes up, Windows Explorer has stopped working, then it will say, Windows Explorer is restarting... then it closes all open folders, re arranges my desktop back to how i had it about a hour ago (if i changed it) then i have to re open all the folders i had open. how can i fix this? im using windows 7 btw another quick question unrelated to previous issue: How do i check what graphics card i have? on my pc which runs on vista it comes up on the welcome screen, however windows 7 doesnt have the welcome screen..
