Where does the power button cable from the tower go on the motherboard?

  • I have a MSI k9a2 platinum motherboard and since i am switching towers at the moment and lost the manual i cant figure out where to put the cord coming from the tower that turns the motherboard on when the button is clicked on the tower(pretty self-explanatory) Where does the cable go? to which port/input?

    You can find the manual for your motherboard here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1332 There is usually a small header block in the lower right hand corner of the board, when the board is oriented with the rear ports at the upper left. It will have the connectors for the standard case switches and lights in this block. It is usually just a group of pins sticking up, it doesn't have to have a plastic surrounding piece like an IDE connector usually has.

Called::the motherboard HEADER.. It is color coded(Intel Mobo's).. I usually need to re-assign my PINS for the color codes delivered with my Intel Motherboard.. The Front Panel Power Switch-- ..has LED's/..you need to search out which LED's are which/ ..DELL sometimes labels the wires/..HD..or..Pwr/ Some DELL Front Panel Power Switches don't match the Intel BOXED--mobo's/..the HEADER is a different Shape..than the DELL..Plug(side).. My last Build had me make a adaptable--Plug-end..to place on the Mobo HEADER..after I had placed each wire in its appropriate PIN(assignment).. Useing the Intel..schematic..showing the Mobo(side)..color code/ === I would not operate my PCs..without this switch-- It is the safest Start-Up and Shut-Down for your PC..also you need the LED's.

I have the same motherboard. If the motherboard is installed the different cables from the tower should connect into the "ports" or little spikes sticking out in the most lower right part of the board. They should say PW +/- on them. If you have reset, front audio or LED lights on your case they should be there too.
