What format is a DVD?

What is the best dvd format?

  • I have no idea what I am doing. My friend kindly burnt me a movie onto a dvd, however it is unplayable in my dvd player. it only works on my laptop. I posted a question earlier and the answers I received were awesome and got me pretty far. However now I'm stuck. I downloaded a program called dvdshrink and when it finished installing a popup came up that said "Video Converter" at the top. it says "input video file" and a space to type and a browse button, and then "output folder". input output what???? i don't know what that means... Then it says "Convert to Format: Avi, MPG, FLV, MOV, MP4, 3GP i wish i knew the differences but I don't. I have a sony laptop windows 7 and the tv is a standard apex tv/dvd combo. it is not a LCD or HDTV or any of that. the size of the file is 701 MB. I just want to be able to convert movies on my hard drive to a playable format so that I can watch them on my tv. thanks

Wow, most dvd players only recognize standard video dvd which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, and I know the reason why you can't play the burnt dvd on your dvd player, but only on computer, because you jsut burnt a data dvd from the movie (directly burn the movie onto dvd disc without convert to the right standard video dvd format) , you should note most dvd players only play standard video dvd , can't play data dvd , but computer can support data dvd well, You can follow me to use RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movie files to standard video dvd and burn to any dvd disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc) and you can play the burnt dvd well on your dvd player , You can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, hope it could help you !

Type in google :Avi wiki or MPG wiki, or FLV wiki, or MOV wiki. You should spend time reading because there is no quick answer. BUT. There is a quick solution. Western Digital Live TV. You put your .(dot) any type onto a flash drive without converting(yep..no convertion needed) and then plug into the usb port on the WD LIVE TV box and the box plays everything in 1080p to any HD or componant tv. It can even be connected to a home network. Very easy.
