How to get a nvidia card to work with ubuntu?

  • i just got a nvidia geforce 8400gs video card and i was using the onboard card before. when i have dual boot vista and ubuntu 9.10. with my monitor hooked up to the nvidia card i can see all the start up stuff but when i get to the which os do you want to load screen and i select ubuntu the monitor stays on but theres nothing on the screen for along time then i get so teminal looking stuff saying stuff like mount: ?/?/? not found mount: ?/?/? not found mount: ?/?/? not found mount: ?/?/? not found when the nvidia card isnt in the computer ubuntu boots fine. i have no clue what to do.
