Can't add hardware for sound device?

• I just finished reformatting my pc and installed Win XP. I put in the CD for motherboard and the multipmedia controller was installed. But USB device and C-media AC97 audio device were not. I tried many times, it says that the drivers for the USB device are not installed. For the C-media one, it simply says the device cannot start. I uninstalled and reinstalled both devices to see if that would help. Nothing happened. Now i have no audio device so no sound on my computer. What can I do? Thanks.

  First of all, why are you installing the CD for the motherboard if you only reformatted your PC and installed XP? The motherboard software should only be installed when installing the motherboard. Also, you should have done a clean install, not an upgrade to reinstall Windows. Did you just build a new system or installed a new motherboard? You should not fool with the MB unless you know what you are doing. Just a reminder. This aside, if you installed a new motherboard, you need to go to the motherboard manufacturers website on a different PC and download the drivers for the audio onto a flash drive. You better be sure to find the exact manufacturer and model number, if it is a store bought PC, it is a little trick finding that info. The drivers' file should include its own installation file. Extract it (with Winzip) before you save it onto the Flash drive. Then find the flash drive (NOT IN BIOS), simply click on the install file on the flash drive and it should take care of your audio problems with regard to your motherboard. Now, most MBs have pretty decent audio, however, you never mentioned if you have a Sound Card installed as well. Make sure your Sound Card is installed properly (before you install speakers, sound system, Sound Card drivers, etc.) Good luck!!
