USB Flash Drive Disconnects On Transfer. Windows 7 X64?
-
Every time I try to transfer or do anything on my flash drives (16g and 4g) It will disconnect. It used to be in a constant cycle of connecting and disconnecting when I had the auto run option turned on. Turning that option off makes it work for a while. Important Notes: The flash drive works on other computers The flash drive used to work on this computer, although that may have been a fluke I have installed the Windows KB976972 Hotfix I have installed the 15.49 nForce drivers. I have unticked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option on all USB Root Hubs, although on restart they seem to be reticked. I have turned the Legacy USB option On (I have also set it to Off and it seems to have not effected anything, I have seen it suggested that leaving it ON will fix the problem, and turning it OFF will fix the problem. I have little knowledge of the Legacy USB options and if you have more information to share and you feel it to be the issue, please elaborate) Now what everyone has been waiting for, Detailed System Specs. CPU: AMD Phenom 720 X3 Mobo: GA-MA790GPT-UD3H Chipset: AMD 790GX RAM: 4096MB DDR3 GPU: NVidia GTX 275 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, build 7600) BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Flash Drives: 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager 4GB Patriot Xporter After Applying the windows patch and adjusting other things, it seems that the problem is less prevalent, but it still exists and is an issue. I am no longer able to scan the flash drive with TreeSize Free without it disconnecting. And to anybody who wants to say the problem is something including but not limited to: A Virus, TreeSize Free, Restart Your Computer, Try Connecting the flash-drive somewhere else/reconnecting. Etc, etc. Please don't even waste your time, I don't want to be quick to run potential answerers away, I just also don't want the usual slew of people who know little to nothing about computers trying to fix a very specific problem with their shenanigans. I usually solve my own problems, but seeing as I have sifted through every link on the first three to four pages of Google searches with differing terms related to this with no success, I have turned to you "yahoo answers" for guidance. I genuinely thank anyone who wishes to help me solve this problem, I have reason to believe it is something with the chipset / W7, or issues with having more than 2 Gigs of ram just because of what I have read, although I have tried every solution I have seen in forums regarding those issues with little avail.

Answer:
First thing I would try is a different USB port. It may simply be that the contacts are getting worn out in a particular port
