What is the difference between a DVD-ROM,DVDR and a DVD-RW?

    A DVD ROM is a read only device, it will only play DVD and CD discs A DVDR is a type of disc and also a device, for the disc it means Write and for the device it means recorder. The disc is a write once media, once recorded on it can not be deleted or over written from the disc. For the device it is simply capable of recording to DVD, but only on DVD-R discs not rewritable. It will usually be capable of writing to both CD and DVD and will play content both. Again DVD-RW is both a type of disc and a device. The disc is Rewritable meaning you can write data to it, add more (if the session is left open) or you can delete the content and then add new data. The DVD-RW drive will read and write to CD and DVD, and is capable of using the RW designated discs. There are two formats, + and - (plus and minus), most DVD-RW drives will read and write to both (often labelled super multi on the drive) but the discs may not play in all devices.

dvd rom stands for Digital Versatile Disk Read Only Memory these come in two type dvd - r and dvd + r the only difference is which node it switches on or off certain dvd writer for home use + or - r computer writers will read both a dwd rw (DVD Re Writable) is like the old floppies it can be used again again only if the multi-session tab is left open when you write to it otherwise it will write once only

ROM-Read only(cannot write) R- can only write once(cannot erase or re write) RW- can erase and rewrite to the same disk(a limited number of times)

Well, I know DVD RW ... the RW means Rewritable, which means if you burn something on the DVD, if you want you can burn over it, whereas a DVD R or DVD ROM you can't.
