How to fix screen on my computer?

How can I fix my computer of the Blue Screen Of Death?

  • I have a Gateway computer, that is maybe around a year old, and the other day I went to use it and I realized it was left on overnight, like usual, and it was on some website, some simple recipe website, and I went to exit out of it. I did so and my computer began to act strange, the screen went black and the Blue Screen Of Death appeared. I turned off my computer and restarted in safe mode, and restored it to an earlier date, all seemed fine for a day and when I turned it on next, the same thing happened again. This time I could not restore to an earlier date so I defragged, and it seemed to work for an hour or so then it happened again, this time when I turned it on I checked for solutions and set to repair, it is now working again, but I am worried this will occur again and I will not be able to fix it. I have only noticed one difference since the initial BSOD, whenever I search for something through google, and I click on a link it gives me, it takes me to some random website, a variety of them usually ending in"puma" if that has any significance. I am seeking any kind of solution that will fix my computer that will rid it of the BSOD permanently . Any thoughts or answers would be GREATLY appreciated, I am a student and depend upon my computer greatly. Thank you everyone

Judging from the behavior of your browser, you have malware installed on your PC. This can happen even if you have anti-virus software installed, because unfortunately, the virogens are faster than the security companies. You will need access to another (uninfected) computer in order to download a malware scanner, and then boot your computer up in safe mode (NOT safe mode with networking). Copy the malware scanner's installation program to a USB thumb drive and install it on your infected PC. One of the best websites for malware issues is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ . They have a couple of posts on something called "creditpuma" which seems similar to what you're encountering. Depending on how determined the virogen was, and barring any extra steps you have to take, it may take a while to remove the malware from your computer. Even then, your documents could still be at risk because they may be infected and the malware scanner will quarantine them so the system doesn't get hit again. If you don't want to go through the process yourself, then you'll have to take the machine to a shop or a friend who is good with computers. Maybe they can help.

before YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A NEW HARD DRIVE. Do a format run http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html if it says good under condition keep your hard drive if it says caution or bad replace it

You either have a bad hard drive or some bad RAM. From you story I would say that a bad spot on the hard drive is more likely. You could also have a Boot sector virus... To determine if you have a boot sector virus, run a current virus-checking program, and if needed, disinfect your computer. If it is a bad hard drive you will have to replace it and try to clone the bad one to the new one and with luck it may all return to normal. If it is not a virus nor a bad hard drive, that leaves the RAM. If you have two sticks try removing one and working with that reduced memory if it crashes again try the other stick. Good luck
