Computer not reading external hard drive?

Computer Hard drive having capacity reading problems.?

  • I'm not really sure what is happening to my laptop's hard drive, but lately its reading on capacity has gone crazy, I have a 100gig harddrive, 20g of which is taken up for the system files and restore, so I really have 80gig, well lately my harddrive's space has decreased for some reason, it is constantly getting lower and lower on "free space". I turned on my computer the other day to see a warning tooltip saying my computer's free space was at dangerous level's, opened up my computer to see my free space was estimated 249MB, so I deleted movies off, songs, and a game,a nd got my space up to 7gig, well now my computer's space is back down to 1.98gig, and I have no idea why, im not downloading anything, yet for some reason the size of my computer is wrong, is there some way I can fix this reading problem? Thanks

  • Answer:

sounds like you have a replicating virus that is designed to eat up your disk space. first try to run disk cleanup and then an updated virus software (i recommend ZoneAlarm Security Suite)

download this program http://windirstat.info/ it will scan your hard drive and will show you blocks of colors, each block is a file, and the size of it shows how much space its taking. run it, and then take a screenie of the results, if it still looks weird or something is still wrong email me the screenie.
