Best Graphics Card For A Dell XPS 410?

Dell XPS 420 PC - Display Issue - Graphics card, monitor - unsure of cause?

  • I've got a ready built Dell XPS 420, purchased in September 2008. With a 1GB ATI Radeon 3870 X2 graphics card. The problem started when I turned on my PC and the starting screen loaded with the Dell logo which was of poor image quality. It then proceeded to go into power save mode, from which I couldn't get it out of. I eventually managed to get into the BIOS and changed to the PCI graphics, which allowed the system to load up. However the when on the desktop screen the resolution had changed and there were many black lines running across the screen. So at the moment I'm unsure as to whether it could be the graphics card or the monitor or even the power supply causing the issue, or how to find out. And then how to fix the problem. So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

  • Answer:

well the 3870 card is a pretty crappy graphics card to begin with,, if your monitor was working fine before, and you did not damage it, and does not display black lines in the BIOS, then it's fine If you didn't change hardware or power supply in the PC, power supply shouldn't be a problem as well...when a power supply die, you just can't power on the computer at all. did you try installing the latest ATI catalyst driver?
