What do I need to record vocals to my computer?

I need a solution without ASIO4all that will allow me to record vocals and midi without crackling in Fl Studio?

  • I am using windows 7 and fl studio 11. I have a mbox mini audio interface with a condenser mic plugged into it. When I select my interface and I try recording from my mic it says no input. Also there is lots of crackling when i use alot of vst's or tracks. I tried selecting the ASIO4ALL driver but I guess Asio doesn't work good with windows 7 it said my audio interface was in use by GS synth.......but nothing else was open. So I did some searching on the web and still nothing. So should I buy a new interface that can run good without ASIO or maybe a mixer. Or should I upgrade my computers Ram or CPU. I just need a solution without ASIO that will allow me to record vocals and midi without crackling. No price range just need solutions. In FL Studio, go to options>audio setting and in the first drop down box at the top where you would select ASIO4all, select M-Audio USB ASIO and close FL Studio and anything like Itunes or media players. Then in the corner of your toolbar, there should be a red circle with a white arrow shape, double click that and click the latency tab and mess with that until you no longer hear latency (crackling, pops) Then for recording vocals, plug your input to input 1 on the audio interface, then go open FL Studio and open up the mixer. Click on insert 1 and in the drop down box where it says in next to it and the drop down box says none, click that and click Line in 1 (your interface). Mine for example says Line in 1 Fast Track Pro. If you are stuck at the ASIO part that I mentioned, then you done something wrong like installed it wrong or installed the wrong driver. Go to the M-Audio website and download your driver if needed. But ASIO is really the only way this is going to work. As far as your computer, the link tells me there is no product found, but as a min requirement to produce a fairly decent song, at least have 4-6 GB of RAM (see your motherboard specs to see if it can handle that) and the best processor that would work with your motherboard. You usually hear a lot of crackling when the latency bar doesn't have enough milliseconds to buffer your sound and sometimes your processor is because of that. You at least need to go with a 3.0 Ghz processor dual core but quad core is always better. The more RAM, the more tracks. Graphics card? Put your onboard graphics card to sleep and install a different graphics card that uses it's own RAM and not the motherboards RAM. With all of this, you will probably need at least a 600W power supply and a better cooling system. I would really suggest you have a separate PC if you're using one to run your DAW. Uninstall all security, you really don't need eye candy, just a little bit, disable all unneeded features and services, stop unnecessary startup programs, clean up the desktop screen from icons, ect ect. This helps clear up the RAM and keep those processes down to a min and dedicate it all to your DAW. A little helps a lot. Don't use the internet on the PC that the DAW is installed on because you will get more latency and if your security is shut off, you get a virus, there goes all of your hard work.
