Why is my analog stick detected as buttons?

well i just got this new pc controller from gamestop and oddly the right analog stick which i use to aim is recognized as the first second third and forth button not as an analog stick so if i try to use xpadder or pinnacles to set it to my preferences i cant because i cant use the detect feature and my dpad is working like analog
