Is an audio interface really necessary?

Need some help to do with my Vista computer and a Fast Track audio interface?

  • I have a Vista Computer with Realtek High definition audio and I want to use a Fast Track 2 USB Audio Interface with it. The audio interface says something about working with ASIO but I wasn't sure if I had that or could download it, I have Mixcraft 4 (recording program). What I'm hopeing to do is buy a condensor Microphone, plug that into this audio interface (I already know about Phantom Power) and then connect the audio interface into my Vista Computer. My question is, will my computer work with the audio interface?

  • Answer:

Yes, it should work! Download the latest audio drivers from M-Audo: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver In Mixcraft, go into the sound device preferences and select ASIO (File Menu > Preferences > Sound Device).
