How can I automatically move files from drive to drive, not copy them?
-
I have Windows Vista, and whenever I move files from my C Drive to an external hard drive, they automatically copy across. I'm wondering how to make them move, instead of copying.
-
Answer:
When dragging and dropping files to different volumes windows will automatically copy. Try selecting the files. And the cut and paste.

Cut and paste is your friend. You can select the files you want to move, right click on top of one of them and in the context menu choose "cut". Then right click in your destination folder and from the context menu choose "paste". Alternatively, you can also use the shortcut keys for cut and paste, cut is ctrl-x and paste is ctrl-v. This "moves" the files from one location to another.

Create a bacth file called moveFiles.bat and copy the following move /Y <source> <destination> Run the batch files and all your files should now move to the external drive.

Right-drag, select move.

Use might have highlighted the files and drag them to your destination. That would certainly copy the files. However if you use the cut and paste option then all files are moved not copied.

moving files from one device to another is copying it ... unlike moving files from one folder to another on the same drive just delete it where you copied it from.. takes 3 seconds same results as moving it..
