Why is my computer running slow?

Why is my computer running so slow?

  • I am not running many programs on my system, I have a firewall which is supposed to block stuff that slows pcs down. I only really use computer for email and maybe watching stuff on Youtube. Last time it started to run really slow (about 6 months ago) I was advised it was the processor speed and to run the recovery disc which reset the computer back to factory settings and then it was fine. Now it's started to slow down again, and I cannot even run the recovery disc, when I put it in it saysCDBOOT:Cannot boot from CD Code 1. Then a message says "An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which cannot be supported." I just want my computer running at a half sensible speed!!!! What is causing it to slow down and how can I get this damn recovery disc to do what it did last time!!! Any help please!!! Thanks! Even writing this the computer text is running behind my typing!!

  • Answer:

Clear out the temporary internet files folder, the history and the cookies. Do some basic disk housekeeping and delete any unwanted applications. Do a defrag on the disk. Do a spyware, malware and anti-virus check on your PC. Check you only have one firewall running. If Windows firewall and a third party firewall eg zonealarm, are running at the same time, they will conflict with one another.

You might not realise you're running lots of programs. How about trying CCleaner (the first 'C' stands for 'cr*p')? It's really good at getting rid of all the rubbish and useless processes running in the background.

Not sure about the CDBOOT thingy but when my computer runs slow i go to tools and click on internet options and i delete the cookies and files. This actually works.

some pc have a operating system on a seperate partition of the hard drive - find it and install ffrom there. It might be an idea to uninstall the firewall first and see what happens.

I think you have to many things going on or you have too many systems on like.. when you open to your screen at the beggining to double click something like the internet or sumthing. You might have too many of them .x so delete some x
