Why is my computer screen black?

Upon exiting any full screen program, my computer freezes and I get a black screen, why?

• Well, as I said, after exiting any game, or other full screen APP, my computer gives me a black screen, and I can not do anything until a hard reset is done. I also try to alt+tab out of these programs too, and that causes the same effect. I just built my computer, and have plenty of knowledge in computers, but this completely stumps me... I've NEVER had this problem before. Everything worked fine for awhile, until I installed Multi Theft Auto, and now everything does this.. It's very strange. It's a bother having to re start my computer and have to wait 25-35 seconds to boot... Any help would be appreciated! I use an ATI Radeon x800 XL Video card with Catalyst 8.8 Drivers, I've tried the newest, and older ones, with the same issue... So please if anyone has ideas, it would be great, thank you!
