How do I transfer my library?

Does anyone know how to transfer a very large itunes library to an external hard drive?

  • I just bought a 500G external hard drive to back up my itunes library. I have almost 9000 songs and I still have room on my 120G ipod so there's plenty of space. I’d like to transfer all my music onto the external hard drive so in itunes I hit Ctrl+A to highlight all my songs. But when I tried to drag them into the hard drive folder, it didn’t work. I’ve dragged songs into folders before with success but never my entire library. I’m guessing it’s too big to drag them all. My library is a combo of purchased music from itunes, my cd’s and many, many cd’s from friends and public libraries. I don’t want to transfer just my purchased music. What is the easiest and quickest way to do transfer everything? Thanks so much for any help!

ok well, what you need to do is close itunes and plug in your ipod. Go into your control panel and go to folder options and select view all files. now go to my computer and select your ipod and go into music and you should see all your folders, they wont be named specific songs but categorized how ever itunes does it, any way drag and drop those folders from your ipod to your harddrive. sorry if this is confusing im at work right now and trying to think of the process in my head, if you need more help email me.

You have to go to properties on your local disk c and back up all your files from there. or go to your music folder in documents and then copy all the files from there
