How long will the Duo Core 2 will stick around?

Difference between intel dual core, core duo, and core 2 duo?

  • i am looking to buy a netbook but got swamped with all these techie terms. 1. can somebody explain, in layman's terms, the difference between intel dual core, core duo, and core 2 duo? 2. do they have AMD equivalents? if so, what are they? 3. would a dual core 1.6 GHz netbook run just the same as a core duo 1.6 GHz netbook? why or why not?

  • Answer:

Think of "Dual Core" as "a burger", "Core Duo" as "Big Mac", and "Core 2 Duo" as "Big 'N Tasty". That's about as laymen's-terms as you can get. Dual-core is a type of processor. Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are specific families of dual-core processors produced by Intel, Core 2 Duo being newer (and usually faster) than the older Core Duo family.

the difference is in the performance of the processor so when you have more cores your computer performance is better

You'll go crazy and waste lots of time trying to understand or compare these details. Just pick the fastest CPU you can afford. (You can use their PassMark CPU ratings to compare them.)
