Is the Creative X Fi Sound Blaster Laptop Sound Card worth it?

  • I have a Dell XPS laptop with the standard built in sound card. I want something that will make my games, MP3s and movies sound better. I'm also a musician and I record my own music. The X-Fi is selling cheap online. Do you have any experience with the X-Fi? Is it worth it? Here's the one I'm looking at... http://item.ebay.com/220638507313

  • Answer:

Just for the fact that your movies and music will sound 1000% better, it's worth it. I've had my X-Fi for about 6 months now and I'm glad I got it. It looks like it comes with a compatible wireless receiver too so you don't have to connect and disconnect any wires to connect to your stereo/home theater equipment. At that price, I'd get it for sure. I paid $160.00 for mine 6 months ago.

In my opinion, I do not realize any difference between onboard audio and built in even with high quality studio headphones or Bose headphones. That card is not that great, you'd might as well go for a 7.1 an even more convenient USB Sound card. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5344879&csid=ITD&body=MAIN
