Can you scan a piece of paper and save as a file on your computer?

  • Can you scan a piece of paper and save as a file on your computer? I want to scan a paper for school with my printer and save it as a file on my computer so i can email it. is this possable? please answer in step by step instrouctions

  • Answer:

Sure, simplest way is to scan and keep the image (picture) of the page. Some scanners come with OCR software that can convert the page contents to a text (or other file). Usually you have to do some editing for it. Really cannot give you step-by-step because it is very dependent on your scanner. Mine, I select what to scan to (on the scanner) and press the scan button. Or, if you want to do the image thing then open one of the image tools that comes with the O/S, open file and select aquire image.

Other answers

That depends on the type of scanner you have (HP, Epson, etc). If the scanner is on an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier like the HP Deskjet f4200 series like I have, you can open "My Computer", then click on the "printer" icon. Select the scanner wizard to scan a document. After the document scans, paste the scanned image into a MS Word Document. You may want to set the margins on the page to .5', so that the image will be as big as possible. Save the file, and then you can email it.
