Can anyone tell me what a scanner is?

Can anyone tell me why I cannot use any online virus scanner?

  • I really need your help. I am getting this message when attempting to use online virus scanners... Program has failed to start. Program has failed to start. Close the Kaspersky Online Scanner window and open it again to install the program. [ERROR:java.security.PrivilegedActionE… Java.io.IOException: Transfer failed: [java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default//packages/kos-bin-winnt.jar].] Please keep in mind that it is doing this in both IE7 and FF 3.0.1 in administrator mode. I have upgraded from java version 6 update 7 to 6 update 10 (beta) and no change. I cleaned and reset my IE before and uninstalled before upgrading to upgrade 10. I know what you’re thinking. It's Kaspersky, right? I don't think so because it does the exact same thing happens to me when trying to run Trend Micro online scanner. I don't know if this helps but I am going to tell you about it anyway. Every time I click on the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" icon, I get another window that pops up saying, ERROR - The requested URL could not be retrieved. While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/languages/english/check.html? The following error was encountered: Read Error The system returned: (104) Connection reset by peerAn error condition occurred while reading data from the network. Please retry your request. Your cache administrator is root. I don't know what to do, I usually can solve problems with computers but this problem is got me stumped. I scanned my computer with Norton 360 (with the latest update) and everything is clean. I scanned with the new Ad-Aware and Search and Destroy and everything is clean. I tried cleaning browser history, deleting browser history and nothing seemed to matter. I am hoping that you can please help. Is there another version that I should be running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.... Java Version 6 Update 10 (build 1.6.0_10-rc-b28) Internet Explorer 7.0.6001.18000

  • Answer:

To answer your question I would say that there is some sort of security software on your machine (Firewall or Internet Security program) that is blocking that connection. This could also be blocked by a virus or spyware. Another thought is that your Java installation is corrupted or damaged. Consider uninstalling Java from the computer AND deleting the Java/Sun Microsystems folder from your "Program Files" directory. Once removed go ahead and reinstall Java, restart the PC, try to scan again. Try running your scans in "Safe Mode with Networking". Try both the online scans and the installed scanning programs. I have also had a lot of luck with AVG Free. It can be downloaded from www.free.avg.com. If nothing works then you may want to contact TrendMicro or Kaspersky to see if they have more information on your error message. Good luck.
