How to connect a printer?

How do i connect my printer to my computer?

  • a few weeks ago, i got a virus on my computer T _T and it was so bad, that it even got into safe mode, so my brother and i had to do a system restore as our last resort, which we eventually had to go to. (oh yeah, i had to run avg on it, but since i wasn't thinking, i ran both ad-aware AND avg which was a really bad thing! D< so it made the computer lag and crash really bad) and now the computer is back to the way when we first bought it, but now, when i usually scan things (before i got the virus) i went to paint, then i would turn on my printer, put the picture on the scanning section, and go to file on paint and chose "from printer or scanner...". but now, even w/ my printer on it still won't work... D: when i go to "from printer or scanner" i can't even click on it ): and my computer is no longer connected to the printer. will someone help me please? >.>;; it'd be really helpful w/ any kind of answer ^^;; i'm not so sure how to reconnect my printer to the computer ><;; my printer works fine when it prints, it just won't scan =(

    You will need to find the installation CD that you got with the printer. Windows Vista already has a lot of drivers available for printers already built in to the operating system but not scanners. Find your cd that came with your printer and install the software. That should enable the scanner features.

You have to load your printer/scanner. Then set it as your default printer. Have you done either of these? To load the printer, you can use the original CD that came with it, but if you can't find it, all you have to do is go to the manufacturer's web site and download the latest driver for it and load it that way. (HP, Canon, Brother, etc, whatever brand your printer is). If all you did was let windows load a generic driver for your printer, then this is most likely why the scanner feature isn't working. This is why you need to load it again using the software cd or else the latest driver from their website.
