The drivers for that printer are already included in all Windows 7 versions, so there's nothing to download and install, but there may be updates that Windows needs to acquire. You could try installing an XP driver under the Windows XP compatibility mode, but that requires Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate in order to do that & you didn't mention which type you have. Unfortunately it's very difficult to troubleshoot & determine the exact cause of the problem that you're having & get the resolution without actually being able to look at and work with the equipment in person. But hopefully the following may help. It sounds like your computer is not detecting your printer at all. Do you get any of the standard USB device connection beep sounds when you connect/disconnect the printer with the USB cable? If you do, that's good, but if you don't then you can have any of a number of the following possible issues. 1) The USB cable is bad. Try another known working cable. 2) The USB port that you're connecting to on the computer is bad/dirty/inoperative. Try different USB ports on the computer to see if any of the others detect the cable/printer connection (make sure the printer is powered ON and the cable is properly attached to the rear interface USB port on the printer). 3) The printer itself may have a problem with it's USB interface port. Try connecting it to another computer to see if you can get it to be recognized on another computer. If it isn't recognized, then your printer needs to be looked at/repaired or replaced. 4) Make sure you're completely powering OFF then ON the computer between attempts to connect & setup the printer to allow Windows to clean out and refresh the caches that it creates so that it can have the best, optimum chance to accept and install the printer correctly. If you are getting the standard USB device connection beep sounds when you connect/disconnect the printer with the USB cable, then try the following: The following link details the following info which is an excellent description of the proper procedure: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02663742&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=90809 Windows 7 Update Failed to Install the Driver Issue When you connected the product to the computer with a USB cable, the Windows Update installation failed. Step four: Manually install the driver Make sure that the USB cable is not connected to the product. If the USB cable is connected to the product, disconnect it. From the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Devices and Printers. The Devices and Printers window opens. Click Add a printer . The Add Printer window opens. Click Add a local printer . Click Use an existing port . Click the Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port) or a USB port, and then click Next . Click the Windows Update button and wait for the updates to complete. In the Install the printer driver window, under Manufacturer click HP , and then search for your driver under Printers . If the driver does not show up under HP, try looking under Hewlett Packard. NOTE: The print drivers are displayed by their series names, which means the last one or two numbers may show as zeroes. Once you find the appropriate driver, plug the USB cable back into the printer. The Installing Device Driver Software window should briefly display in the bottom right corner of the computer screen. Wait for it to disappear. Click the Cancel button on the Add Printer window. The newly installed printer now shows in the Devices and Printers window.

The HP (USA) website states: "Install the Driver Using Windows Update with a USB Connection (Downloadable Driver Not Available)", my friend, but if you take a look at the following page there's a Utility - Diagnostic Tool called HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows 7 that MAY help you.

Some printers have to be disconnected from the computer until the install asks you to connect it. A very important step. Try the HP printer install wizard: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02691615&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=90809
