Make small tif files?

• I need to make small tifs. 1 page tif about 50k in size. Black and white ok. Mtif or tif formats accepted. Right now the tifs i make are a lot larger. If i try to put compression in, even i can not open them. Please be specific. I have gimp and psp and ms paint programs. Also have examples of small tiff files, so if there is a way to see how they were made, please lmk.

I don't use TIFFs ever, but here are a few things you can try: Photoshop has four image compression options: - None (obviously not what you want) - LZW (widely supported) - ZIP (not supported by old TIFF readers) - JPEG (not supported by old TIFF readers) I don't use Gimp, but see if it supports LZW compression, because that's probably your best bet. Other things that may influence filesize: - lower the bits per channel from 32 or 16 to 8 (if it isn't already at 8) - switch from RGB to an Indexed Color or Grayscale color mode - make sure that you're not saving the layers (unless you really need them) because that will bloat things Finally, you can probably find image analyzing software that will tell you the exact method of compression used by the compressed TIFFs you already have if you run a Google search.
