Why does my laptop keep freezing since I smashed the monitor?

Why does my computer keep freezing during a scan?

  • Lately my laptop has been freezing while im trying to do a webroot scan. Right before it freezes it says that a lot of cookies have been detected. So, i sent it in to staples for a pc tune up thinking that maybe that would fix it. Apparently my laptop still freezes over there too. My only choices now are to either pay over 60 dollars for a diagnostic in staples so they can fix it or, i can find some way else of fixing it. I was thinking of doing a malware bytes scan. Can someone tell me if this is gonna help or not?....if not, can u give me advice on what i should do, a solution that doesnt cost a dime because i already paid 10 for the pc tune up, and im in trouble of my parents find out something is wrong with my laptop. And also i dont have any money. Please help me!!

I'm not overly familiar with webroot, but most use a lot of RAM, which in turn generates a lot of heat. Check your tower to see if there's problems with dust bunnies and the vents are not jammed up. Most PC's benefit from 'check disk' when things start getting inoperative: it moves data from disk sections that are going bad, to fresh ones, which sometimes helps. For XP (later OS's may be similar) do this: Start> my computer> right click 'c' drive> properties> tools> error check: here check both boxes, then OK. The next time you cold boot your system, this process will run (maybe 10-60 minutes) fixing disk errors (if any). Another process that helps sometimes is to "repair" the Windows files/folders, which puts a fresh copy of Windows down, without disturbing your data files. Make sure it's REPAIR Windows, not the other options. Doing that depends on what OS you have. Post another Q about doing that with more details of your system for more focused help.
