How to scan pictures to a laptop?

How can I scan slides and save them as photos on my laptop.?

  • I have a lot of old slide pictures for use with a projector but would like to have these small pictures on my laptop. Can I scan and save them from an HP printer/photosmart/scanner?

  • Answer:

Hi, actually if your scanner has a lid light or a slide attachment you can. A lid light is usually under the lid of the scanner and the slides fit in there.

You can; a: buy a slide scanner (Good quality, but expensive and takes a lot of time- this is what I currently do) b: use a flatbed scanner with the appropriatte adapter (Poor quality, but cheaper, still lots of time) c: pick the best and get them scanned in for you (Okay Quality, Query cost, quick) So maybe with your HP thingy if it has the right adapter. But you'll need to look at the instructions.

Many flatbed scanners have a way to hold slides or negatives. Usually the program that comes with them has the ability to reverse negatives into positives. I've found that sometimes the results are a little grainy. If you have a lot of slides and negatives to scan, get a digitizer made especially for that. I use a Minolta Dimage and it works great. The associated program lets you restore faded color as well as several other things. While you can't make a bad photo great, you can make corrections such as backlighting. Then use Microsoft Picture It and you can make some photos better than new or repair images that have been damaged. I highly recommend the Dimage.
