How can I properly read data from bar code scanner?

Need HELP!!! with a Cash Register Scanner PLEASEEE!!?

• I have an IBM Think Centre with XP Pro that is not reading the scanner Metrologic MS9500 Voyager Series, Single-Line hand held laser scanner. My problem is that the register will NOT read the scanner and will keep giving me a RED LIGHT and YELLOW light in the top of the scanner, it Beeps but is not "Reading" the bar code. It reads its own bar code from its instruction manual. I need help desperately cause it's a pain to have to type all the numbers from the bar codes for this rergistrer by hand,

  It sounds like the scanner is working OK with the computer/register since it can read it's own barcode, but it's possible that the barcode types that you're normally trying to read are a different type/format that is not currently enabled or supported by the scanner or computer/register. It may need to be setup properly with drivers or software on the register. Your IT/Help Desk support should be able to set it up for you. If this is for your own company where you don't have an IT/Help Desk group, then you'll need to contact the manufacturer of the scanner and ask them what you need to do to setup the computer & scanner to read the barcode types that you're trying to scan.
