Use scanner on printer?

I cant use my Hewlett packard scanner, the printer and fax is working fine, but with the scanner I keep?

  • getting this message. "another program or computer is using the network device" There are 3 computers networking with this machine but none of them can use the scanner. Searching the internet says that perhaps my firewall is blocking it but i dont know anything about that! I had a previous machine (exactly the same but there was a printing problem and the machine was replaced) and we didnt have any trouble using the scanner on that one. if anybody can help it would be appreciated. Cheers

  • Answer:

You can disable your firewall software and see if that fixes it. If it does, then you need to add an exception to your firewall. This varies from brand-to-brand. If it's a new scanner, call HP's tech support. If it's out of warranty and disabling the firewall didn't help, the scanner is probably broken.

Perform the following solutions in the order presented. Solution one: Scan from the EWS (Embedded Web Server) Make sure that the HP All-in-One is able to scan and is connected to your network. Perform the following steps to scan from the Embedded Web Server (EWS): Print a Network Configuration Page from the all-in-one. NOTE: Refer to the product documentation, user guide, or online resource for information to print the Network Configuration Page. Locate the IP address listed on the Network Configuration Page. Look in the Wired section if the all-in-one is connected with an Ethernet cable. Look in the Wireless section if the all-in-one is connected with a wireless network connection. Make a note of the IP address found in the appropriate section (wired or wireless); for example, 192.168.1.1. Open your web browser. Type the IP address from the Network Configuration Page into the address bar of your web browser; for example http://192.168.1.1. Then press Enter on the keyboard. The EWS opens. If the EWS does not open, stop here and follow these steps to check the network connections between the computer and the all-in-one. (c00047176) (in English). On the EWS page, locate the Scan on option. Click Scan to perform a scanning operation. If you can scan from the EWS but cannot scan from the HP Director/Solution Center or from the front panel of the all-in-one, continue to Solution two. Solution two: Scanning issues caused by personal firewalls If your firewall program was disabled during the installation of the HP All-in-One product software over the network, once the firewall was re-enabled it may be blocking HP programs or ports required for scanning. If you see pop-up screens asking you to permit access to the network when you attempt to scan, you should permit access. NOTE: Firewall programs may also block the scanning operation even if they were enabled during installation of the HP All-in-One's software and does not always provide pop-up screens when blocking access. Follow step one to allow access to HP program files and ports needed for scanning that the firewall may be blocking. Step one: Add programs to the firewall exception list Open the firewall program. Add the following files to the Highly Trusted programs list: hpqkygrp.exe , located under the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory. hpqscnvw.exe , located under the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory. hpzipm12.exe , located under the C:\windows\system32 directory. hpzinw12.exe , located under the C:\windows\system32 directory. hpqtra08.exe , located under the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory. hpqthb08.exe , located under the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory. NOTE: Not all of the files mentioned above will be present on your computer. If all these executables are already added, then check if full access has been granted to them. Open the following ports on your firewall utility by following the instructions provided by the manufacturer: UDP ports: 161, 427 and 137 TCP ports: 9220, 9500 and 9290 Step two: Restart devices on the network After making the changes to your firewall application, shut down the HP All-in-One, the computer you made the firewall changes on and your router and then turn on these devices in the following order: Router HP All-in-One Computer
