How can I get my memory card reader to work on my HP TouchSmart computer?

I have a HP TouchSmart computer and when I go to try to download my pitures in my memory card read on my computer my pictures will not download. The memory card reader will not light to show it is working. How can I fix the problem?

ok is it dirty have you use can of air to blow it out maybe the card itself went bad or is the card lock
