How do you scan picture onto your computer with the HP photosmart printer?

HP photosmart scanner?

  • Hokay, My scanner is being SUPERCALIFRAGIOUSSUBlablabla gay right now. and, I have a friend's birthday picture to scan. But, whenever I go to HP solution center, and click scan picture it seys: An error has occured when communicating with the scanning device. Or whatever, I tried disconnecting it form the computer, then replugging it, still doesnt work, and tried the same with the printer cords, still doesnt work. And when I click the Start scan/reprints button, nothing comes up .. HP photosmart C3150 All-in-one Pleasee helpp! : D

    Hi DJ First hand, remove all the old software COMPLETELY and power on your scanner but, disconnect the usb cable from it. Now , start your installation and wait for the install program to tell you to plug in your usb cable. Do it and the installation will complete itself. Reboot and now, windows will find your scanner and complete the installation. OPen Photoshop or the software that came with it, press acquire or scan and it should work. HP are fussy scanners but, my procedure as describe will make it work.

First, HPs can get picky when there are power surges, etc. I've found that to get it to completely reset you sometimes have to unplug the power cord from the wall (to reset the power supply, the black box on the power cable) -- flipping the switch or simply disconnecting the power from the back of the scanner doesn't fix this. Second, if you have to remove the software and reinstall it, it's very important that you (a) disconnect the USB cable from the computer (not the scanner, or the computer will still think there's a device there), (b) power the computer down and restart it before you reinstall the scanner software, and (c) only plug the USB cable back into the computer when the installer tells you to do so. The other answer leaves out 2 of these steps.
