My pc is not detecting my scanner HP C 4288...?

OS-win xp....latest software downloaded frm hp.com....software is not getting installed....after 96% installation ...error message comes ...usb cable is working properly....pl help

Have you tried checking your USB cable? Have you tried a different cable? Have you tried to uninstall it and then re-install it? Have you checked the printers compatibility with XP?

Go to the printer's site again. Download the software again and ensure that you have entered the correct model number there. Ensure that your anti-virus is working properly while downloading the software. Also scan with your anti virus after downloading. First uninstall the previous software or any other software connected with the printer. Then install the newly downloaded software afresh.Follow the installation steps carefully and make sure that your printer is not connected to your compute while installing the software. Sometimes the software on the sites are corrupt. Try getting a Software CD from someone else or try downloading another version of the needed software. It will definitely work. Best of luck.

Unplug the usb cable and power on the scanner. that is always the issue with most scanners. Begin a fresh setup and let the software tell you when to re-connect the USB cable back to the computer. Let it finish setup, reboot computer, and once you are back into windows, HP will finish the setup automatically. That's it.
