Why does my printer light keep blinking?

New printer to be compatible with my new vista laptop

  • I need to get a new printer (all in one) as my new laptop system is vista. My top priority is economical use ie cheap cartridges. I am a relatively light printer user and photos woudl be nice but are not a priority. I have tried to research but keep getting conflicting information. So far i think it is between kodak, maybe brother and canon (except many canon don't seem to be compatible with vista). I think it is better to get a printer with separate cartridges for each colour? I am getting more and more confused - can anyone help me please.

  • Answer:

I have a Epson DX6000 which is pretty good all in one, £18 for a full set of new cartridges. Can you not get your original printer to work by going on the manufacturers website and downloading drivers for Vista?

I always used to use Canon printers, but I got fed up with the price of inks so I decided to shop around. I ended up buying a Kodak 5100 and have not looked back. The printer itself was quite expensive, (£79.00 or there abouts), but the price of the inks more than make up for it. You can get a color and a black in a combi pack £15-99 which is less than half the price than a color for the Canon. We do a lot of printing in my house what with the kids homework and my wifes work and the organisations that I belong to so price of inks is important, and I don't think that Kodak can be beaten. A lot of people say to buy the cheap compatible inks for Canon and Epson etc. But that can be dangerous as the contacts on these inks can ruin your printer, so you have to be very careful with them. Good luck in what ever you choose.lol

As someone who was in the computer hardware business for years (though I rarely sold printers since I couldn't compete with the crazy rebates) I have always recommended Epson. The print quality is excellent, even on plain paper. I have photos I printed on a 640 about ten years ago hanging in my office which still look good, though not as good as the ones from the CX8400 on glossy paper. The warranty is excellent. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I had one customer who needed this. He called one afternoon and had the replacement two days later. Another client bought a Canon. It needed two repairs within a few months. Each time it was taken to the repair center, then picked up a few days later. This client runs a specialty printing business and this really hurt. They have since bought an Epson CX5000 and have had no down time since. All name brand ink is expensive, but you can get cheap new replacement cartridges for Epson (not refills which I never recommend) for under $5 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp I have been using these for years. The CX8400 scanner/copier/printer was on sale at circuitcity.com for $60 with free shipping. It uses 3 colors plus black. The RX595 scanner/copier/printer also prints on DVDs. It uses 5 colors plus black and has even higher photo quality. It's on sale for $80 after $55 instant rebate. http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/54342/epson-rx595-stylus-multifunction-photo-printer-copier-scanner/
