What HP printer is great and compatible with Mac?

I just bought an HP printer and am trying to install it in my mac but it keeps freezing at the set up stage?

I have mac OSX v10.5 and am trying to install an HP deskjet 1000. The driver is supposed to be compatible with my OS and the actual installing part works but when I get to the setup portion of the installation the setup assistant stops responding and I have to force quit. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, I have also tried downloading the driver from the hp website and I still have the same problem. I cannot seem to find this problem on the hp website (I found a lot of support for windows but not much for macs). If anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate the help.

Contact HP, have you tired using it without the HP driver? Apple includes a lot of drivers already.
