Connecting a printer to the home network

Is it possible to add a printer to the wireless home network without connecting the printer to one of the computer. We have a desktop with the printer connected to it now. Our network is comprised of two computers one is a desktop and one is a laptop. We want to update to two new laptops. This would eliminate the desktop. So could we connect the printer to the network with no computer linked to it. Is there a network driver for the printer? How would you do this? Thanks

There is hardware out there that allows you to connect a printer that normally would be wired to your computer with a USB or Parallel connection to the network. Unless the printer has a network connection you can not connect it to the network direct. There are print servers you can buy to do this, they would plug into the network at the router and accept printing from the machines. Not all print servers work with all printers. If the printer is multi-function (all-in-one) these are not supported. It might be cheaper to buy a network ready printer, some of the HP models are very cheap. Print servers can be quite expensive.
