How do I get my printer to work?

How can I get an Oki c3200n printer to work on my Mac OS X.6?

  • Hi, my boss just gave me this Oki c3200n laser printer to work with at home but I can't get it to work with my MacBook running OS 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard). I downloaded the driver from the Oki website, installed it (I have Rosetta installed, I checked, and I run 32-bit) but when I go to "add printer" in either the application's print menu or my system preferences, it shows up as a USB connection but says there aren't any drivers on my machine! I'm pretty good with computers and I'm married to an IT guy (but he's busy, of course) so any instructions are helpful, even especially technical ones — I can take it! Can someone please help me get this printer working? Thank you for any assistance. P.S. Does anyone else find that printers, copiers and fax machines exist only to torment and frustrate us all to the point of cursing and throwing things? It's been my experience. ;)

  • Answer:

If your printer were connected to your Mac via AppleTalk, the printer would not respond after upgrading to Snow Leopard. To get it working again, go to the print and fax system preferences pane and click the plus (+) icon. If the name of your printer appears in the default list, you select the name and click to add it. However, chances are good that a previously AppleTalk-connected printer is old to include Bonjour support and would not show up in the Default list. In this case, you need to do a bit more work to add the printer back.
