How to change ink cartridge on Lexmark printer?

Why does my Lexmark printer still say ink low after putting in a brand new cartridge?

  • I have a Lexmark x3480 printer/scanner and I am using an inkrite cartridge because they are cheaper than the Lexmark cartridges. This cartridge is fully compatible and the test page printed out extremely well, but it still says ink low. I use the printer with a windows 7 PC and the Lexmark solution center also says ink low. I have had this printer since November 2006 and Ive never had any problems with it. thanks

  • Answer:

Lexmark is just about the most terrible brand of printer on earth.

Many manufacturers put a "smart chip" on ink filled devices so you can't use them after they have been refilled, presumably with non-OEM ink. These chips keep track of ink usage. Your printer likely thinks the tank is empty. These chips are not designed to be consumer resettable. You got what you paid for. I got tired of unfair ink prices and switched to a Kodak printer. The quality is exceptional and the replacement ink costs about half of what other manufacturers charge.
