What shall I do to install printer?

What steps to take to install printer that will have compatibility issues? HP printer - please help.?

  • I have a HP Photosmart c4280 printer, did some research and found that it isn't compatible w/ Windows 7 which my new computer has. Found this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3192753&lang=en& which is the solution & will make it compatible but I am confused as to the steps I need to take. I am assuming I first connect the printer to the tower & plug it in for power. What do I do next? Download & Install that compatibility fix thing & that's it? OR Install the installation CD that came w/ the printer & then once the driver or whatever won't work, download & install that compatibility fix? At what point do I even physically turn the printer on(power button) for the computer to recognize? I don't know what steps to take exactly. Please help.

    Your HP Photosmart C4280 will work on windows 7. First, right-click on the computer icon on your desktop (if it isn't there, click the start button, then right click on computer icon there) and choose properties. You will see a system summary - it should tell you part way down whether Windows 7 is 32 or 64 bit. Go to the link you have for the HP c4280 driver site, select the version of windows 7 you have, then click next. Then click on the driver-product installation software link, then more info, then on the download button. Make sure your printer is not connected to the computer.Click on run. From then it should prompt you what to do, including when to plug the printer in.

Try using the Vista driver since W7 is really just a glorified version of Vista.
